Dharmacari Kumarjeev

KumarjeevDharmacari Kumarjeev, one of the founders of the Dhammakranti movement in India, was recently interviewed by the San Francisco Chronicle about his life in India, and the problems of caste. FWBO & TBMSG News has run several stories about India recently including some coverage of the celebrations of Dr Ambedkar's conversion 50 yeara ago, and of Dhammakranti retreats. This interview however offers a more personal insight into what it was like to grow up and live in a society where untouchability, though abolished by law, is still tacitly applied by many.

This is a very useful introduction to the subject of caste and untouchability in India, and of the Buddhist response to it - a very good starting place for newcomers who are interested in this aspect of the FWBO and TBMSG.
